Why is this good for children?

🌸Imagine your child creating something with joy and sparkling eyes, as a beautiful sugar flower comes to life in their hands.
This isn’t just a creative afternoon – it’s a special opportunity for personal development and joyful learning!

Developing fine motor skills and sensorimotor integration

Shaping sugar paste and creating flower petals is an exciting challenge that helps develop hand-eye coordination, precision and concentration in a fun way. These skills will prove useful not only at school, but in all areas of life.

Fine motor control (Fisher, 2005).
Eye-hand coordination (Schlaug et al., 2009).

Cognitive development and strengthening executive functions

During the workshop, the children can give free rein to their imagination and create their own colour combinations and flower shapes. Completing this complex task requires focused attention, which improves the ability to concentrate for sustained periods. Following the logical sequence of steps strengthens analytical thinking.

Planning and problem-solving (Diamond & Lee, 2011).
Attention control (Posner & Rothbart, 2007).

Fostering creativity and visual-spatial skills

Creative activities help to foster new ways of thinking and develop visual-spatial intelligence. They encourage the generation of new ideas and enhance the perception of shapes, sizes and proportions.

It stimulates divergent thinking (Runco & Acar, 2012). It enhances visual-spatial skills (Verdine et al., 2014).

Developing social and emotional skills

The workshop isn’t just about creating – the children help one another and learn together, enabling them to make friends whilst having fun in a supportive and cheerful environment. Through working on tasks together, the children learn to share information, offer help and give feedback.

Cooperation and communication (Vygotsky, 1978).

Developing patience and perseverance

The children experience what it feels like when their patience and perseverance pay off, as they return home with a beautiful creation at the end. By accepting and correcting mistakes, their tolerance for frustration increases, and the result achieved at the end of a longer process reinforces their intrinsic motivation.

To increase frustration tolerance (Duckworth et al., 2007). To assess delayed reward (Mischel et al., 1989).

Boosting self-confidence and self-esteem

Making sugar flowers is not only an enjoyable process, but also yields a tangible result. A beautiful creation made with your own hands boosts self-esteem and a sense of competence. This tangible result boosts self-esteem and, through the sense of achievement, helps to cope with frustration. The beauty and uniqueness of the finished flower inspire pride and satisfaction.

Self-confidence and emotional resilience (Bandura, 1997).

Hi, I’m Katalin Magyar-László, founder of Katherine’s Sugarflower Art. I love creating all sorts of flowers from simple sugar paste.

Why did I set up the sugar flower workshop?

I know how hard it is to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. To treat ourselves to something that helps make our days a little happier.

In this workshop, you’ll learn a technique that allows you to easily create an attractive flower from sugar paste. Throughout the process, you’ll find yourself getting closer and closer to your true self.
The flowers can also be made in an edible form, so you can use them to decorate your cakes.

My aim is to help people who would like to learn the art of making sugar flowers, so that they can bring even more joy with their unique cakes.

What can you expect from me at the workshop?

I provide clear, step-by-step tuition, covering everything from the basics to advanced techniques, and I also provide notes to go with the lessons.

You can learn the process of making lifelike sugar flowers, from shaping and colouring right through to assembly.

I use only high-quality, safe ingredients, and I provide all the necessary equipment.

Carefree relaxation and the joy of creativity in the wonderful world of sugar flowers!

I’d already known Kati when she embarked on this new adventure. Her enthusiasm hasn’t waned since then; with great care and expertise, she helps you learn how to make breathtaking sugar flowers. Just don’t confuse them with the real thing. 😉
